Five months passed since she joined yet it seems as if it was yesterday. A lot many changes happened during this time and one of them was poetry. He started writing poetry. Whenever he wrote any new one, he sent it on his office email and let her read sitting beside him. She used to be overwhelmed admiring every piece and giving further encouragement. He was happy.
It was the month of February, last month of winters; weather was getting warmer and romantic too. As valentine week was proceeding, with each passing day he used to ask her as to which day was it then, have some conversation on day accordingly with some flirting. He even asked her for a break (for the first time) in office canteen on chocolate day and they had chocolate biscuits and juice together. After she left from office she called him to thank for treat.
Next day, he asked her about the plans for Valentine’s Day if she was going out with her boyfriend or how she was going to celebrate. She said they don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day as for them every day is of that sort. He told that he’s going to celebrate this Valentine’s Day with one of his female friends and she wished him in return.
On Valentine’s Day he was on off as planned while she reached office but left early as her boyfriend came to pick her and everyone else in office rumored suspecting both of them to be together. They talked about each other’s experience when they met in office after Valentine’s Day, joked and shared light moments. It was the beginning of their togetherness. During the first week of March, he asked her to meet outside office some day. She proposed a day of Monday before office as she wasn’t able to meet on weekends and 11th of the month was the day they zeroed down for their meeting however she asked him to not to call it a date.
They met at a metro station, went to one of the malls, watched movie and reached office thereafter. Though they were spending time together, enjoying each other’s company but they were still strangers, there was some sort of hesitation because of which the meeting seemed more formal than casual.
She was hesitating for people to see them coming together to office when they returned from movie and so she asked him to not to enter inside office premises at the same time, until he didn’t ask her to not to worry and that he’ll handle everything, luckily no one saw.
Rest of the evening passed normally till her boyfriend came to pick her for a surprise party as it was her birthday after midnight. He knew that already even then his heart shrank when she told him that she was leaving early and that her boyfriend is coming to pick her for a party at his friend’s place. He wanted her to stay but couldn’t help it. There was nothing new which he didn’t know already but those were strange feelings pilling up inside him. It was the first time he felt that way for her. She said her goodbye for the day and left with her boyfriend while he remained in office, busy with work and didn’t get a chance to think more about it. After his shift was over at 3 O’ clock in the morning while going back to home in office cab he sent her an sms for birthday wishes.
She called him back as she received the message as if she was waiting for it. He picked up the call and said that he’ll call her back in few minutes once he reaches home as it was not appropriate for him to talk to her in front of other people in cab at that time. As promised he called back –
“Happy birthday!”
“Thank you so much!”
“How was the party? You must have enjoyed!”
“Umm, Party was good but I was feeling a little bit uncomfortable as I didn’t know anybody there, they were all Sandy’s friends. I didn’t know anybody.”
“Still, it was your birthday after all.”
“Yeah, It was kind of okay types but the surprise was good, he gifted me a very big teddy bear and a bouquet of roses”
“Hmm”
“Why didn’t you call me at 12?” She asked.
“I was busy with work and also I didn’t want to disturb you in celebration.”
“Come on! I reached home even before 12. I had to reach early so we wrapped up quickly.”
“Oh! I didn’t know that!”
“Umm, so what’s up?”
“Nothing, just reached home, you say!”
“By the way, today was good. I liked the way you handled those guys when they were pretending to ask some route and the movie was really nice.”
“Were they pretending? I thought they really needed to reach there… Yeah, the movie was good”
“No, I guess they were trying to be over smart but you handled them very well.”
“Oh! I was kinda usual, the way I used to be.”
“Hmmm…”
After the silence of few seconds, they talked further. She asked him about his friends and told about hers. She even told him about a best (male) friend that she has, their story as to how they met, about her gang of college friends and the way they used to have fun together. He listened everything with patience though felt little sad as he always misses all those things in his life which she used to enjoy. He really felt jealous of her. They kept talking for hours and suddenly realized that it was morning. At 7:30 AM they said goodbyes and went to sleep.
